Simulating Neuronal Fiber Bundles for Dt-mri Tractography
نویسندگان
چکیده
Diffusion Tensor MRI (DT-MRI) is a relatively new imaging technique that measures anisotropic diffusion of molecules in biological tissue [1, 2]. This diffusion anisotropy reflects the presence of spatially oriented structures and therefore allows to study in vivo and non-invasively the architecture of axonal fibers in the central nervous system. Several methods have been developed to reconstruct these White Matter (WM) fiber pathways [3]. However, validation of these fiber tracking algorithms remains unsatisfactory due to the lack of a gold standard for comparison. In this work, a DT-MRI phantom is presented that simulates the physical properties of a WM fiber pathway in a natural way. This allows to evaluate the numerous criteria that characterize a tractography algorithm, quantitatively.

Median Filtering Methods in Diffusion Tensor Magnetic Resonance Imaging
DT-MRI(Diffusion Tenosr – Magnetic Resonance Imaging) tractography is a non-invasive method of tracing neuronal fiber bundles. DT-MRI measures anisotropy per pixel and provides the directional information of eigenvectors relevant for fiber tractography. Since eigenvectors in each voxel computed from DT-MRI usually contain noise, the calculated principal eigenvector direction may be different fr...

Background and Aim: The methods for detecting brain activation with fMRI, MRI provides a way to measure the anatomical connections which enable lightning-fast communication among neurons that specialize in different kinds of brain functions. Diffusion tensor imaging is able to measure the direction of bundles of the axonal fibers which are all aligned. Besides mapping white matter fiber tracts,...

Recent advancement of MRI techniques and development of new methods of image analysis have allowed us to study large neural tracts within the human brain. This is based on the principle of diffusion tensor MRI that is similar to that of diffusion-weighted imaging but takes magnitude and direction of the diffusion of water into account. Using this technique we have been able to define large neur...

Diffusion tensor magnetic resonance imaging (DT-MRI) is the first noninvasive in vivo imaging modality with the potential to generate fiber tract trajectories in soft fibrous tissues, such as the brain white matter. Several newly developed fiber reconstruction and tractography techniques based on DT-MRI are reviewed in this article, including streamline fiber tracking techniques, diffusion tens...
